The Compound
1.There are a lot of musicans (a dozen or so)who hang around, perform or teach at the compound. I think it must be like my experiences in the U.S. where musicans often blur praticing networking and socialising. 2. The people here are really nice and are working very hard to make us comfortable and to teach us. 3.Guinea is definitely a franco-phone country and not speaking french (none of us do) is a handicap.Conakry is a thriving city and almost anything you need is available here once you learn the fench names of things. You also have to realise that all of those things that look like shacks or booths are more organised than they seem to an american who is put off by the crowds and the heat. 4. it is very very hot here.5. I think we are all coming out of shock and learning how to function in this place.

Wow, this place sounds more exhilarating every time I read about it. Also, has anyone in the group picked up any make shift drumming lessons?
