Good News About the Blog!

Good news for the blog: we have managed to get an internet connection at our house in Conakry. This will make it much easier for the SOC 492/592 students in Guinea to post to the blog. We are still limited by an unreliable source of electricity – the electricity from the city comes and goes, and our generator is limited to evening hours. As only one person at a time can connect to the net at the house, we still don’t have unlimited access; however, it is much easier than it was last week, when we had to travel to an internet cafĂ© to add posts. A trip outside our compound here is generally quite a production, and takes a lot of time and energy. Being able to sit down in our “living room” and write a post is a much better situation.

The Guinea students will also be able to post their questions to the readings as well. Due to the circumstances here, we have had to adjust the schedule for posting and responding to questions. Please try to get your questions posted to the “Discussion” part of Blackboard by Wednesday evening each week, but the responses to the questions will depend on when everyone has their questions posted. As soon as we get most of the questions up for the Wilkinson reading (first week), please select your questions and write your responses. There are six students registered for the course, so once four sets of questions appear you can choose the ones you want to respond to.

  1. That's great news! I can only imagine the chaos that this has created. The house members must be in such a rush to get online.
