music transcending culture
hey David I do not know what DR. Barton would say but here are my observations 1 these rythyms are spreading I heard them at drum circles in Atlanta, Memphis and Cleveland Miss Amara teaches in South Carolina and Olu teaches in Ohio. If you go to the local nightclub here with Amara he is quick to point out that that is a fula rythymn they are playing( they even let him sit in some] Also the guys at the compound seem to like wearing t-shirts with the names of performing companies in the US.I sometimes suspect that we are ocassionaly paraded around to demonstrate Amaras international status.Amara definitely seems to be a sort of celebratie. I do not understand the role of music in the local culture but it seems that almost everyone has at least dabbled in music or dance.
